12/30/2012: The 2013 catalog has been posted!
Greetings from Montana!
Another year is almost gone as I write this. It is always a challenge to put something on paper that others can relate to and not be repetitive. That said! Gardening is always a rewarding endeavor, and when dahlias are involved, doubly so. To those of you who are beginning this journey, I wish you luck, fair weather and HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS! Looking at our dahlia gardens in bloom still stops me in my tracks even after growing them for over twenty years.
GOD made the dahlia hearty and resilient, so no matter what the weather does, HE has always given us a harvest. Trish and I are slowing down as the years go by, and we keep trying to cut back the number of dahlias planted. This year, 2012, we succeeded in planting fewer tubers, but added varieties. It is hard to resist a new variety and even an old one that I’ve never tried.
We are planning to eliminate a few varieties this year, which will be difficult. Our gardens have old and newer dahlias, and we stress reliability. A variety must have a strong plant, grow well, produce tubers that store well, and have blooms that show and sell well to remain in our gardens very long.
We guarantee our tubers to have a viable eye and be true to variety, but we cannot guarantee a tuber will grow in unfavorable weather, insect, or soil conditions. If you have any problems with your order, let us know as soon as possible and before planting. We will gladly replace tubers, if possible, or refund your money.
Cultivars are listed with a combination of classification number followed by position number in group, name, size, form, color, plant height, year of introduction, cut flowers we especially like, and other info. You will find most of the "FABULOUS FIFTY" and "CREAM of the CROP" and good old reliables.
Bonus tubers: one for each $30.00 of tubers purchased; our choice and dependent upon supply.
A note to our foreign customers: we will be shipping Air Mail at a cost of $15.00 plus $23.00 inspection certificate for a total of $38.00 plus price of tubers. Send payment in U.S. dollars with order.
Confirmation will be sent as soon as possible. We ship Priority Mail within the U.S. on Mondays and Tuesdays starting April 1 unless otherwise requested. Shipping and handling rates have changed some and are at bottom of order form. Make payment by check or Money Order payable to Michael Valler – NO Credit Cards.
